ABOUT US
ABOUT US
1. Reach Up to God through our weekend Experience.
2. Reach In for discipleship through Next Step classes.
3. Reach Over for relationships through Small Groups.
4. Reach Out to the world through the GO Team.
1. Believe
Every person has the right to a presentation of the Gospel at his or her level of understanding.
2. Pray
Every person needs a Biblical more compass to guide and protect him or her throughout life.
3. Serve
Every believer has unique gifts to be discovered, developed and used to strengthen the church.
4. Give
Every believer has a purpose in advancing the global mission of Christ and the Church.
These are behaviors that help us to live out our purpose, mission and core values.
This is what Journey culture looks like in action.
Love God.
Love people.
Work hard.
Have fun.
OUR PURPOSE
It is the purpose of Journey Fellowship Church to help people become fully devoted followers of Christ.
OUR VISION
It is our vision to build a local church in Slidell where people can find hope, purpose, healing and forgiveness. We dedicated ourselves to baptizing 10,000 new believers into the Body of Christ.
OUR BEGININGS
October 6, 1996
Journey began as a small group in the spring of 1996 and we had our first Suday experience on October 6th of that year.
OUR LEAD TEAM
Doug McAllister
Lead Pastor
Pastor Doug and Rachel married on Father's Day in 1981 and have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. They moved to Slidell and planted Journey in 1996 with a small group of 17 people.
He loves the Smoky Mountains, bass fishing and tractors. PD has a Westie named Hatch who co-writes his weekly blog at DougMcAllister.com
His favorite snack is an Auntie Anne's pretzel. His favorite food is red beans and rice with sausage, collard greens , corn bread and of course sweet tea. It's best when they are slow cooked all day on a Monday.
He loves watching It's a Wonderful life and his favorite book is 'Hinds Feet on High Places' by Hannah Hurnard.
Ken Maat
Campus Pastor
Pastor Ken has been part of the Journey team for 20 years. He and his wife, Koni, have been married for 36 years and in ministry nearly as long. They have 5 children and 3 grandchildren (who live too far away).
Pastor Ken will do whatever is necessary to help people become fully devoted followers of Jesus from tarping roofs and fixing toilets to leading small groups and preaching the gospel – nothing is off limits if it means showing people Christianity in action.
He also loves football and is Tom Brady’s biggest fan!
Tanya Camper
Care Pastor
At the age of 12, Tanya Z. Camper surrendered her life to Christ at the top of a Ferris-wheel and she began serving in the church when she was fourteen.
She married her high school sweetheart, Curtis, in 1979 and she has 3 sons, 2 daughters-in-law and 3 granddaughters.
Her favorite thing to do is hang out with her family and friends, and especially her granddaughters. She loves people and loves to sing.
Pastor T was certified with the Assemblies of God in 2014, licensed in 2019 and ordained in 2021.
She has been a part of Journey's staff since 1998 and is the Weekend Team and Care Pastor.
Al Chartier
Next Step Discipleship Pastor
Pastor Al and his wife Jenn have been married for 20 years and have 4 kids from 5 to 17 years old who keep life fun and active!
They started attending Journey in January of 2006 and joined the staff in 2010.
Pastor Al is passionate about helping people get from where they are to where God wants them to be!
He accomplishes this as the pastor over the Celebrate Recovery ministry and through Bridges Christian College where he teaches and serves on the Executive Team.
