When I was 12 years old, we had a neighbor down the road from us who was a widow woman with no children and she and my mom were good friends. Her name was Rosalie.
About twice a month Rosalie would make chicken and sausage gumbo and bring it down to our house for supper. I was telling Hatch this morning how much I loved that gumbo and looked forward to it as a kid. Ms Rosalie has been gone from the earth for many years now, but I still fondly remember the meals she used to bring our family because she loved my mom and our family.
Isn't it incredible how food anchors people in our memories and remain vivid in our lives even 50 years later.
Hatch just asked me if I would make him some of Rosalie's chicken and sausage gumbo for dinner.
That's a good idea boy.
